How to Protect Yourself if your taking Antibiotics

Step 1. Healthy bacteria found in the intestinal tract aid digestion, as well as helping to keep fungal invaders under control.


Step 2. Antibiotic treatment can kill these beneficial bacteria, just as they kill unwanted bacteria. This can lead to a disruption of the normal intestinal balance.


Step 3. Beneficial bacteria are essential for absorbing nutrients. Antibiotics deplete these from your intestines, which may lead to diarrhea, upset stomach, immune problems and yeast infections.


Step 4. To avoid depletion while taking antibiotics, taking a supplement called “probiotic” can be helpful.


Step 5. Probiotics such as acidophilus and bifidus can be taken in capsules, powder or liquid. They are easily found in health and nutrition stores.


Step 6. Some yogurts claim to have added probiotics. However, most commercially made yogurts are also loaded with sugar– which actually feeds yeast.


Step 7. Probiotics should be taken during the course of antibiotic treatment. Also, they should be continued for an additional few weeks after stopping.

There are a lot of people who do not have enough natural vitamin sources in their diet and therefore suffer from a deficiency of one or more vitamins. Obviously, it is possible to buy vitamin supplements to help overcome any deficiencies but for the majority of people it should be possible for them to obtain the majority of their recommended daily allowance of vitamins from natural vitamin sources.
