Speeding up metabolism is probably the only sure fire way to lose weight and lose it advantageously and healthy. Of course there are many ways to lose weight but below are five ways to speed up your metabolism and keep that fire burning.
#1 Skipping Breakfast is a NO! NO!
The old adage that breakfast is the most meal of the day is very true. Breakfast will jump start your metabolism as well as cut out the urge for binging later in the day. No coffee does not count, true you may get a small boost from the caffeine and or sugar as well as well as a small appetite suppression. But it is only temporary and leads to overeating later.
To keep your hunger in check, the breakfast should include complex carbohydrates such as whole grain cereals, it should include protein and fat such as low-fat yogurt or milk.
#2 Eat more times during the day
A person should eat at least four times a day, or every three to four hours. Eating more often will stabilize the bodies blood sugar, then it wont drop too low and cause over eating. Blood sugar is a big factor when controlling your appetite, keep it in check and it will be easier to keep your metabolic rate going.
How this works is if a person does not eat for some time, the body will automatically slow down to conserve energy, effectively slowing down metabolism which is what you want to keep active to lose weight.
#3 Protein should be incorporateded into every meal
Protein takes your body more time and more energy to digest therefore making you feel as if you are full for a longer period of time. Some research has even demonstrated that people have lost weight by just increasing their protein intake without decreasing calories.
There are many variations of protein that may be added to diet here are just a few; turkey on whole grain bread, hummus and pita, vegetarian chili or nuts. There are also many varieties of protein bars that contain sufficient protein.
#4 Put a “curb” on the snacks
How many times when feeling tired, does some one reach for a snack to get a quick burst of energy. This is very, very important, do not confuse hunger with weariness or boredom. In the case of weariness or boredom, Walking for 15-20 minutes will help. The object here is to raise your heart rate which will give you a boost to your energy level.
After taking the walk, make sure that a full 8 oz. glass of water is consumed. After all this you still feel that you “are hungry”, something good to snack on would be whole wheat crackers and peanut butter or cheese.
#5 Always intake enough calories for your needs
If you intake too little calories for your body, your metabolism will slow down, just like not eating frequently enough will do. To lose weight, drastically cutting your calories is not the healthy for your body.
The more healthy way to lose weight would be to eliminate a few extras here and there such as; soda, juice, prepackaged goods or candy. Processed foods are some of the biggest culprits being high in fat and calories and extremely low in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

I agree totally with your article. I learnt these essential tips for losing weight healthily when I went to a diet and fitness class after giving birth, and it worked really well. The weight came off slowly (a couple of lbs a week) and stayed off
