A succulent plant that is very similar to the cactus, Hoodia gordonii, is know for its natural ability to to suppress appetites therefore helping in weight loss.

It is manufactured in capsule, liquid and also in tea form. In the semi-deserts of Africa, the hoodia cactus grows in small clusters of green stems. The usual maturity of the cactus is five years before it can even be harvested.

There are about twenty different types of the hoodia cactus, but the only one with appetite suppressant is the hoodia gordonii variety. Even though hoodia is relatively new to the world, the San Bushman of the Kalahari desert have been incorporating it into their diet for centuries.

Even though there is not much “published” research on hoodia, Brown University conducted a study and their findings were; “The steroidal glycosides that are contained within the hoodia, fool the brain into thinking that that there is an adequate supply of energy in the form of blood sugar”, therefore if your brain thinks your blood sugar is not going down it does not have to either replenish or conserve.

BE VERY, VERY, CAREFUL when researching or shopping for hoodia or information on the internet. There has been a big activity of hoodia information and products, drug manufactures are popping up everywhere claiming to sell the genuine hoodia. As a matter of fact, there has been actual cases, where fake pills contained sawdust mixed with some roots of unknown plants. So I will state it again be VERY, VERY, CAREFUL.

Some of the tale tale signs to look for in fraud would be:

If company A had a claim that there hoodia product was better than company B. Or all other companies hoodia products were some how inferior. Because genuine hoodia has the same effectiveness across the board and they are only allowed to put so much of the hoodia into each serving size.

Hoodia gordonii diet pills are very, very, effective.

They do have one drawback, they are pricey. For the reason already mentioned is why the diet pill are so pricey; I will mention them again, maturing of cactus before harvest takes five years, and of course it only grows in Africa. In addition to the maturing time of five years at a very high temperature, it is quite difficult to grow.  This is just a small explanation of why it is such a pricey diet pill.

How do I know the proper dosage of hoodia.

The manufactures always put suggested dosages on the side of the bottles. It would be good to start with that dose then adjust up or down to get the desire effect you want in your body. Most people that use hoodia on an ongoing basis usually take about 1,200 milligrams per day for the results that they want. ( NOTE this is not an indication of your body or body chemistry though so start small) The best thing to do is consult your physician regarding you taking hoodia. There are a lot of factors that go into determining the correct dosage for you personally.
