Many people already know of the properties exhibited by lavender oil, if not it has many properties that relieve stress. But did you know that if you mix lavender with other oils, that the properties may be intensified or changed. Take clary sage and lemon for instance, when mixed with lavender you will receive a much more reassured feeling from the mixture. When you do this with essential oils, mix them, it is know as blending.
Creating a blend is almost like throwing together a pot of slumgolin. Which from where I am from that is nothing more than a broth base with all kinds of vegetables and a meat in it, kinda like a stew but thicker. Any person can throw a pot of slumgolin together. You just put in what you like. Once you have everything that you want to put in the slumgolin, and mix it all in in the proportion that you wish, the slumgolin is ready to heat up and serve.
In the same way, as the slumgolin, aromatherapy blends can be made. All one will need is an aspiration to do a little experimentation, as well as a little knowledge of the oils, in order to produce an aromatherapy blend.
A tasteful and therapeutic blend that has been blended by you for you, will not take much time to complete. Make sure before doing anything with aromatherapy or essential oils, that you have done plenty of research, or have spoken to a therapist.
The synergistic properties of each oil needs to be fully researched to make sure that they the properties go well together. There are oils that will work against one another. In this case the blend will not be producing its maximum performance.
The best oils to use together are oils that enhance each others properties. It goes without saying, to always make sure the oils are pure oils, before buying and or blending. There are such oils on the market as fragrant oils. These oils are only to be used to add fragrances to candles and the like.
I personally would not use them in aromatherapy blends, because they are made with artificial elements, which in turn will compromise the blend, and make it capable of being contaminated.
In the research of blending of essential oils, you may find this a timely process. In the same way a scientist gets engrossed in his research, it can be the same when blending essential oils. One gets lost in what they enjoy. So when putting the time in to study and research. Make sure that a database is kept on the profiles of each oils properties researched. So that it will be easily referred backed to instead of research again.
To start out, sprinkle some essential oil on a napkin or something that will soak up the oil and let it evaporate. Monitor the effects when you inhale the aroma through your nose.(how does it make you feel, do you see any difference in yourself before you inhaled the aroma, ect.) Write it all down for future reference. Use different oils doing the same thing with each one.
Write all your findings into your database, for each oil for future reference. Make sure that all the reactions that happen from the particular oil are written down while blending.
Note any of the following. The oils property will usually change anyone of the following ways.
The oil will lose its original properties.
The oils properties will enhance.
Or a completely new property will emerge.
The basic outcomes of blending are all the same. The blending is to raise or heighten the desired effect of an oil on a body or system. To tell you the truth it may take some time to develop some blends and note their properties. Some properties you will know right of the bat, others will probably, quite frankly, be discovered by accident.
I don’t know if you will become an expert in the field of aromatherapy or not, but one thing for sure the blends that you have discovered will help you out the rest of your life. Happy blending!!!!!!!!!

When blending for a sick individual, use a more direct approach. Blend oils high in 1,8 cineole for steam inhalation or use with blank essential oil inhalers.
